How To Use Farm Jack And Traction Board for Self Rescue in 4 * 4 Off-road Situations

1、 Tool preparation

Farm jack: It is necessary to ensure that the model matches the vehicle (such as sufficient length to lift the body), and check whether the handle, locking pin, and base are intact.

Traction board: Choose materials with deep anti slip texture and strong load-bearing capacity.

Auxiliary tools: gloves, anti slip pads, shovel (to clean the tire area), kinetic rope (spare).

2、 Operation steps

①. Safety preparation

Parking: Shift to neutral (N for manual transmission, P for automatic transmission), apply the handbrake, and turn off the engine.

Fixed vehicle: Use stones or wooden blocks to support the wheels that are not trapped and prevent them from slipping.

Observe the terrain: determine the optimal direction for getting out of trouble (such as reversing or moving forward), clean up debris around the tires (mud, snow, gravel).

②. Use a farm jack to lift the vehicle

Choose support points: bumper, side bars, or dedicated lifting points (avoid hitting the body steel plate or suspension components). If the ground is soft, anti slip boards or wooden boards can be placed at the bottom of the farm jack to distribute pressure.

Lifting operation: Fix the farm jack vertically and lock the lowest hole position with a locking pin. Shake the handle to gradually lift it up, and check the stability of the vehicle and pole after each lift.

Lifting height: Only the tire needs to be lifted off the ground (about 5-10cm) to avoid tipping over due to excessive height.

③. Place the traction board

Location: Close to the ground of the trapped tire (forward direction is at the front of the tire, reverse direction is at the rear).

Angle: The contact surface between the board and the tire is at a 45 ° angle (convenient for the tire to roll onto the board).

Fixed: Use a shovel to press the bottom of the board into the ground, ensuring it does not slide.

④. Lowering the vehicle and getting out of trouble

Slow descent: Shake the handle in reverse to stabilize the tire on the release plate.

Start the vehicle: Shift into low gear (such as 4L gear), lightly press the accelerator, and keep the tires rolling at a constant speed. If the front wheels are stuck, you can slightly turn left and right to increase friction.

After getting out of the predicament: retrieve the traction board and check if the vehicle chassis is damaged.

3、 Post inspection

Check for damage to the tires, suspension, and chassis.

Clean and maintain the farm jack (lubricate joints, remove rust), rinse and dry the traction board.
